Is Fear An Important Indicator?
Whether you’re fighting for your life, or preparing to nail your next sales call, your fear is simply an indication that what you’re doing matters greatly to you(fear is excitement, energy and awareness). And just because you have fear, doesn’t mean you cannot move forward.
Move with your fear; don’t ignore it or pretend it doesn’t exist. Your fear is sending you a message, and you get to choose how you respond. Fear can be a catalyst or a trap.
You have two choices when you feel fear: Choose COURAGE or DISCOURAGE.
Learning to choose courage and move with your fear is similar to growing a muscle – it takes time, and it takes training….
…and there are few greater feelings and REWARDS than when we feel our fears and MOVE forward anyways.
Did you know that there are specific components of your brain that learn WITH fear? When you begin to overturn the initial reaction of your amygdala(fear center of your brain) you begin to retrain the way your brain responds to situations that bring about fear.
How do you retrain the way your brain reacts? Well, step one is load up your memory with examples of when you chose courage and action in the past(you can build these stories through simulations too). As one of my past mentors Jesse Elder taught me, “Confidence comes from EVIDENCE”.
Someday, when you look back on your life, you’ll be thankful you chose to move with your fear – even if a few times it didn’t work out so well. You’ll be glad you banked on yourself, and gave it your all. (Because success is a numbers game: effort/skill x time = you’ll win)
And I’m not talking about RATIONAL FEAR, ie, the kind that keeps you alive. I’m talking about IRRATIONAL FEAR; the kind that keeps you from living.
Let fear illuminate what you need to see, and then take over from there.
Fear is a component, but it does not define you – it is not your spirit but your asset, if you let it be.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
– 2nd Timothy 1:7
You got this.
My best,
